We are committed to inspiring young people to better understand the aviation world, nurturing future talents for the industry and supporting aviation development.

Dragonair Youth Aviation Academy

The Dragonair Youth Aviation Academy  was established in 2010 to offer local youth a platform to learn more about aviation in Hong Kong and inspire them to take up a career within the industry. The Academy is the major educational initiative within the airline’s CSR programme and was created in response to the limited information on the industry available in the local community.

i) Dragonair Aviation Certificate Programme

An integral part of the Academy is the Dragonair Aviation Certificate Programme, which is a unique educational initiative organised by the airline in conjunction with the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps (HKACC) since 2005. It offers a series of extraordinary experiences through which participants from HKACC and the general public are able to gain an in-depth understanding of the world of aviation and further explore their interest in pursuing a career in the industry.

The course covers many different aspects of airline operations, from pilots, cabin crew, air traffic controllers and airport management to aircraft engineering, aviation security, meteorology, emergency readiness, inflight catering, and more.  Each participant is guided through an eight-month journey, with a Dragonair pilot acting as their mentor. They get the opportunity to attend lectures, training sessions, briefings and tours hosted by industry partners. They also join observation flights, accompanying their mentor in the jump seat, to help develop a solid foundation of aviation knowledge and a deeper understanding of the workings of the industry.

2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the programme. Out of the hundreds of programme alumni, nearly half have already embarked on a career in the aviation industry, working as air traffic controllers, flight dispatchers, load controllers, aircraft engineers, flight attendants and pilots for Dragonair and sister airline Cathay Pacific.

ii) Aviation Career Workshops

Different career workshops are organised each year to offer youngsters in Hong Kong a chance to explore the exciting world of aviation and be inspired by the various career opportunities within the industry. Through different activities such as presentations, symposiums, role-play scenarios and direct interaction with industry representatives, students are able to get a glimpse into the nature of various aviation operational areas such as pilots, flight attendants, engineers and air traffic controllers.

China I Can Fly

China I Can Fly is the nationwide CSR programme for the Dragonair team in Mainland China. The target participants are under-privileged junior high school students who have never flown before. The programme is aimed at inspiring them to become a part of the aviation industry through facility visits - including Cathay Pacific City, the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, the Civil Aviation Department and HAECO - and a first-time flying experience. In 2014-15, more than 100 youngsters from various Mainland cities benefited from the programme.
